Illuminata Such a Beautiful thing, to throw away. Puffs of white smog left dark plumes as a long legged creature made it’s path over fresh, soft snow. The tracks that followed the soot and ivory femora spoke of a long and lonely journey. Her visage hung low, dipping and swaying freely with her every dragged step. She was past being tiered, or past even exhaustion. Her bode was well muscled, from playing with the femme’s and stags back in her home band, but it wasn’t toned for such brutality of walking and walking and walking. Tears could no longer fall from her crystalline eyes, they had long ago run themselves short. There was a hollowness to her now that hallowed her once expresionate and loving persona. How was it that one moment could change ones life forever? Illuminata wondered silently to herself.
With every step she found it just a little harder for her to take the next. Not because of the frosty chill in the air, or because of the utter tiredness seeping into her being; but because with every step she took, it was a step further away from the life she had known. Nothing could have prepared her for what had happened in her home band that had ultimately led to her banishment. Was it right that her no longer being welcomed was of no action of her own? On the next raise of her hoof she stopped herself. With her right leg still raised from the ground she shook her head violently. She’d had to do this a few times before. Stop and catch her barring. When she remembered, when she let the memories wash over her sorrow wanted to brake into her soul and cripple her. Illuminata knew that she was stronger than that though. With a sharp snap she threw her tan colored hoof down and pushed herself onward, throwing away the memories and gazing at her surroundings. Even though she no longer had a herd to call home; she was considered a loaner she did find slight joy in her solitude. Back home had been a few strict acres; but here, there were no boundaries and the sites were breath taking. Winter had never looked so beautiful. Pure white snow hugged towering evergreens while mounds of it licked the land. The bright morning sun kissed the diamond snow sending a prism of colors her way.
Suddenly a new, sharp smell entered her nostrils and made them flair to life. The twin black zeniths upon her crania sprang to attention and zeroed in on where the smell was coming from. Illuminata had always been an adventurous one, much to her parents chagrin and this new opportunity would not be wasted. With a spring in her step that had never been there before she traveled on in perplexment.
…
Electric blue eyes widened at the site that met Illuminata. On her way to finding the source of her curiosity she had met a few odd things. Like tall trees that had no branches till way up high and the carcass of some hard brown thing that had smelled slightly fruity even though it had been mainly covered in snow. And when her hooves had sunken even further into the ground than the snow had made her she had stopped for a few to dig with her hooves. What she found was tan sand in masses. Illuminata had only heard stories about the ocean, with is wild waves and reflections of the sky. Seeing it in person was one of the most amazing moments in her life. Even though she should be gowing threw depression emotions like wonderment and happiness were etched into her features.

Dred had been standing on the shore for hours, just staring into the abyss that was the horizon. The stallion was rather prone to such moments of elapsed melancholy and reflective thought, and the allure of the waves breaking against the frosty shore was just enough to bring on another such episode.
Because of the intensity of his concentration, he didn't become aware of another horse's presence until he was sure she had already seen him. However, when he looked over, the painted mare was so absorbed in the sight that met her eyes, that Dred doubted she'd even scented him. Probably, the scent of salt and seaweed was so overwhelming that she didn't even pause to think that another equine could be so close. But then again, neither did he.
Upon further inspection, Dred deduced that she was young, perhaps not even three years of age, and, with a diligent sniff of the air, he could tell that she was very much alone. Perfect, he thought, the corners of his mouth turning up in a devious smirk. Dred was new to these lands, and the newly instated ruler of Fyre Forest, a beautiful territory to the east; Fyre Forest was lush and green in the spring and summer, flaming red in the fall, and, of course, snowy white in the winter. The young stallion flared his nostrils, a cloud of steam billowing forth from the depths of his strong lungs.
"Greetings, my lovely," he called out, his dulcet tones ringing in the frosty morning air, which made the stallion's voice all the more brittle and sharp. He tossed his ebony black mane, ears pricked in anticipation. When no response came, he decided to sneak a bit closer. With a reassuring smile, the sly male padded up to the painted mare, but stopped 20 feet short, allowing her to feel safe and secure in his presence. All part of the plan.

So entrapped with the white capped waves was the soot and ivory mare that she didn’t hear, when spoken a greeting from a being much like herself. The sun was at the apex of it’s rise in the sky and with it’s glorying rays it beat against the shifting ocean with a multitude of colors, shinning till it almost hurt for the fillies sky like orbs to look upon. Her lungs expanded and exhailed the tangy salty breeze blowing off of the ocean; which she took much pleasure in with the new, exciting scent. A startled response came from her velvet kissers, much like a cough when on one indrawn breath an even new and more unique reek exploded in her sensory. Illuminata’s vibrant blue orbs short from the wonderment of the site before her to just bellow her lithe form. How she hadn’t picked up the males presence sooner was uncomp… no that wasn’t right. Luma had let herself and her nievety be taken over by the glory that was nature. A mistake that set her heart beating crazily within her chest.
The equine who recided a mere distance from her was of the male decent. This put her harks up and tail to swishing in agitation. When Luma had been kicked from her home band she had expected to meet other beings along the way but expecting and actually experiencing were two totally different occurances. Twin zeniths rose to attention while orbs wide and slightly white took in the blue roan coloration. Her mind ran a thousand different paths as she thoughts of what to do and how to act. She had never before encountered a stranger before, having been sheltered fully till now. The stag didn’t seem threatening though and maybe if she was kind he would do her the same. “Hello there.” She greeted, plastering on a sweet smile and trying to at least feign being calm; inside she was frightened though. Not knowing what the next moment was going to bring.

A sardonic smile plucked at the corners of his lips, black eyes narrowing upon her face. Dred watched as she tore her eyes away from the horizon, and inwardly laughed at the surprise etched on her pretty young face when she realized she wasn't alone. He also noticed the familiar look of fear on her face, but it was gone before he could fully enjoy its presence.
"So, I see that you are smitten with the unruly temptress that is the sea." He purred, his voice low and reassuring. He took one step forward, head inclined slightly, ears pricked with curiosity. He inhaled her scent deeply, the smell triggering primal desires inside him. She was young. Very young. This was perhaps her first time being in season. "What is such a beautiful young thing like yourself doing out here all alone?" Dred smirked, his handsome features showing his amusement. "Where, perchance, is your herd? You must have one, such a lovely mare as yourself."
The stallion stood quietly, waiting for her reply, letting his eager gaze drift over her lithe form. She was indeed a great beauty, with a pelt as white as snow and as black as ebony. Her eyes were the same color as the sea upon which she gazed so hungrily. Her body, while very light and leggy, was strong and firm, well-built. Yes, she would produce fine offspring. Swishing his tail, Dred decided, I must have her. And I shall do whatever it takes to make her mine.
Word count: 254 Comments: I really tried to make it longer, but it was just ridiculous. There's only so much you can write about saying hello. I wanted to go with quality over quantity, and I didn't want to keep yapping on. It's concise and it gives you a lot to reply to.
